DARATT (2006)
Atim never met his father. He died before the boy was born in the long war in the Chad desert. Brought up by his grandfather, on his fifteenth birthday, the boy is given a gun and told who shot his father. The murderer is called Nassara, the owner of a baker’s shop who gives the local kids free bread. Atim is hired as an apprentice in the shop. Nassara teaches him with patience and dedication, appreciating his progress. But the young boy still waits for the moment to take his revenge. Is it possible to forget the past? Can you forget your desire to avenge crimes committed such a long time ago? A film reflecting on potential reconciliation, asking itself if human beings are capable of forgetting the past in order to achieve a better future.
