Vindicación feminista

When feminism was starting to burgeon in Spain, in intense correspondence with Lidia Falcón (imprisoned at Yeserías, wrongly accused of the far-off attack by ETA in the Calle Correos, Madrid), we began to lay the foundations of the feminist magazine only suited to women, entitled Vindicación.

In our long epistolary we learned to invent a word –vindication– never used before in this country so destitute of culture.

We were a tight-knit, determined bunch, perhaps overly educated and intellectual, who failed to succeed in defeating the chauvinist inheritance of the recent democracy.

Because the way we see peace has nothing to do with the never-ending war of our victors.

One day, in some part of the world, in some other century, I yearn, anxiously, for feminist sense to eliminate chauvinist injustice.

As I was saying: Vindicación was born in prison and I’d say that it died in democracy...
