TRATU TXARREN ARRASTOA

EXHIBITION:
THE SIGN OF ABUSE

Perhaps the worse infringement of human rights is that affecting children. Contrary to common belief, these infringements don’t only affect boys and girls in the poorest parts of the planet. There are also boys and girls who suffer from them in our own society. Ill-treatment and sexual abuse are two disgraceful behaviours that we have not yet been able to eradicate.

The exhibition The Sign of Abuse, organised by the Asociación Vasca de Ayuda a la Infancia Maltratada (the Basque Association for Aid to Abused Children, AVAIM), comprises 35 drawings by boys and girls who have suffered some kind of abuse. In these pictures, the children quite clearly portray the anguish and fury caused by their traumatic experiences. These drawings are also a way to convey to society the pain suffered by these boys, girls and adolescents violated in their innocence, thus contributing to making headway with the eradication of all forms of abuse.
