RUE 24, PHNOM PENH (KAMPUCHEA)

Article 18 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Cambodia stipulates: “The State shall protect children’s rights, in particular their right to life, education, protection during wartime and from economic or sexual exploitation”.
Mikel Aristregi (Hernani, 1975) brings us an exhibition of photographs taken in Cambodia between November 2004 and March 2005. The boys and girls in the streets of Phnom Penh who feature in this event funded by the NGO Global Humanitaria give the spectator a closer look at their difficult living conditions in the city. This photographer from Gipuzkoa uses his black and white pictures to capture a stolen childhood portrayed in the everyday lives of these children who wander the streets of the Cambodian capital in misery and abandon.
